The Trumps hosted afternoon tea, and the royals joined President and Mrs. Trump for an arrival ceremony and a glittering state dinner on April 28. Cameras captured light moments — chats with First Lady Melania, a stroll with President Trump, shared laughter in the Oval Office and toasts at the dinner. King Charles also addressed Congress, becoming the second British monarch to do so after the late Queen Elizabeth II.
On April 29 the king and queen visited the National September 11 Memorial in New York, toured with Michael Bloomberg and laid bouquets at one of the memorial pools. The palace said the attached card read: "We honour the memory of all those who so tragically lost their lives on 11th September 2001, and stand in enduring solidarity with the American people in the face of such profound loss."
