A whirlwind first year

Early 2011 saw the couple at public duties: a lifeboat naming in February, returning to St Andrews, and a cheeky visit to Greenmount in March. After their April wedding they met President Obama in May, Kate made her Trooping the Colour balcony debut in June, and the pair toured Canada and the U.S. in July. They marked family moments that year — Zara Phillips’s wedding, their first Christmas as the Cambridges — and attended film premieres into 2012.

Family at the center

The couple have three children: George (2013), Charlotte (2015) and Louis (2018). They’ve also faced strains common to public life, including family rifts, the deaths of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and health scares. William has said he prioritizes family life, keeping to school timetables and pick-ups to give their children a stable home and a strong start.
