A historic opening

The Antoine Fuqua-directed film opened on April 24 and pulled in $97 million domestically and $217 million internationally, for a $314 million global debut, according to Variety. That total marks the biggest-ever opening for a biopic, surpassing 2015’s Straight Outta Compton, which began with $60 million. It’s also the second-biggest debut of 2026 so far, behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
